Having a "bikini body" is easy. Get a bikini, put your body in it, and - ta da! - a bikini body is yours. That being said, many of us aren't too keen to two-piece it this summer without a little "help" first. That's why we talked to the best in exercise, non-invasive fat reduction and cosmetic surgery to find out how to feel fit and confident in a swimsuit this season.

Coolsculpt
The ugly truth is, we all have stubborn fat. And, as we age, gravity and genetics only make things worse. Proper diet and exercise are not enough to keep these unwanted bulges at bay. Coolsculpting is the solution for getting back the body you want, without surgery or downtime. Coolsculpting uses controlled cooling to target unwanted fat cells in the selected area to induce a noticeable, natural-looking reduction in fat bulges. And, while it will leave you slimmer, it will leave your bank account cushy. The treatment is only $1,200 this month (regularly $1,500). See the ad on page 19 for real before and after photos.

Liposonix and VelaShape
Even with exercise and diet, many people struggle with stubborn bulges and unsightly fat. Traditionally, liposuction was the best way to remove excess fat deposits. However, it is invasive, expensive and recovery can be uncomfortable. That's why Dermacure offers Liposonix and VelaShape, two non-invasive, non-surgical options.

Lipsonix was developed by the same company that brought us Fraxel and Thermage. It is FDA approved to permanently destroy fat cells. Liposonix uses HIFU technology, or high intensity focused ultrasound energy, to achieve results with little to no down time. Most patients resume normal activities within 24 hours, and no special post care is required. The fat that is destroyed is removed naturally from your body during the next eight to 12 weeks. Backed by over 10 years of scientific research and testing, Liposonix is an extremely safe, quick and convenient treatment.

VelaShape is an FDA approved treatment for circumferential reduction. VelaShape also contours, shapes and slims the body by improving the appearance of cellulite and reducing thigh circumference in as few as four treatment sessions. It provides dramatic results without downtime or significant discomfort. Firm and smooth those trouble spots!

Liposonix and VelaShape treatments are performed by Dr. Craig F. Ingber or his highly-trained RN Nicole Deacon.

4 Surgical Options for getting
that Summer Bikini Body

The more instant results of cosmetic surgery, in addition to a healthy lifestyle and exercise, can make your dream bikini body a realistic goal.

1. Breast Augmentation
For women who feel their breast size is too small, a breast augmentation can provide body contour enhancement, which allows for that ultra-sexy feminine curvature. Women who have had one or more pregnancies might feel the shape of their breasts has changed for the worse, and a breast augmentation can bring back some of that pre-baby voluptuousness. Some women enjoy breast augmentation as a corrective procedure, either because their breasts are of two different sizes, or as a post-breast surgery correction.

2. Liposuction
Liposuction is a form of body contouring that removes fat from targeted areas of the body. Excess fat is removed through a hollow tube that suctions out the fat. In recent years, using removed fat to enhance other body parts such as the buttocks has become increasing popular.

3. Fat Transfer
Fat transfer goes hand-in-hand with a liposuction procedure. Fat transfer is the optimal choice for many women, because it's all-natural tissue that was already theirs anyway - only now, it's being used to enhance those feminine areas that need a boost. You can discuss a Brazilian Butt Lift or lip injection with your surgeon.

4. Tummy Tuck
Excess skin and fat are removed from the mid to lower parts of the abdomen, where excess pounds can be very difficult to shed. Tummy tucks are most often performed on men and women whose abdomens have not responded to traditional weight loss programs, women who have excess abdominal skin as a result of pregnancy, and previously-obese patients who have excess skin from extreme weight loss.
All of these procedures are done on an out-patient basis with modern techniques that have surprisingly-quick, pain-free recoveries.

Summer Training is in Full Swing
Our community is beginning to see the start of the famous California summer training! Whatever your goals, the right equipment is critical.

Hats: The right hat is not to be underestimated; it will keep sweat and hair out of your eyes and prevent harmful sun rays from burning your scalp.

Shirts and shorts: Some of this does lend to personal preference, such as length of shorts or the "sleeves versus tank" debate, but some constants do remain. Here's one: No cotton! Other wicking materials will work far more efficiently at keeping the body cooler, as well as eliminate problems like chafing and blisters. This rule also applies to hats and socks.

Shoes: Footwear is the most important part of summer training. Fitting the right shoe is not a perfect science, so it is always easier to work with someone who understands the shoe for what it is or isn't. The range of shoe types can seem long and complicated, but the process is well worth the journey with a seasoned pro by your side! Runners Lane Inc. 260-3368

Are You Suit-worthy?
The temperature's heating up and that can only mean one thing - time to head for the water. Are you suit-worthy? Time to enlist the help of an artist who can give you that confidence from the inside out.

Waxing is a time-honored method of removing unwanted hair and allows the artist to sculpt the landscape, taking advantage of each person's unique curves and highlights. When you visit Heather Nelson, the award-winning owner of WAX in the Sola Salon, you'll be treated to a private pampering that begins with a professional consultation that puts you at ease. The mystery of heated wax and strips of cloth in the hands of an expert disappears and you will emerge energized and revitalized with a healthy glow.

Nowadays, waxing is a grooming technique used by more than 80 percent of US college students, most of them preferring the Brazilian wax treatment. A bit more extensive than a bikini wax, the Brazilian technique removes most or all of the hair in the pubic region. Many people say the practice gives them a heightened sense of comfort and hygiene, not just during the summer, but all year long.

First-timers might want to take a mild painkiller, such as ibuprofen, before their visit to defer any discomfort. Plan that trip to the wax studio a day or two before hitting the sand or chaise lounge, in case there is any residual redness in the waxed area. 644-4346
