Hi Dr. Moza! For the last few years I've suffered with pretty bad sciatica because of a slipped disc. The pain travels from my buttocks and down my leg. Sometimes it's worse than others but I've tried to tough it out. On really bad days I rely heavily on over the counter pain meds, but they only take the pain down partially. My doctor says that enough is enough and it's time to get a referral to a neurosurgeon. I'm not exactly thrilled about surgery; to say that I've been hoping to put it off is an understatement. What might this process entail?

Hi Dr. Moza. It seems like most people write you to ask whether or not you think they should consider surgery. Well, I already know I need surgery and I've even gotten it approved by my insurance carrier. The problem is, my insurance has approved my upcoming spine surgery under one condition: that it be performed by an orthopedic surgeon in my "network." I've done the research and I'm convinced that
I'll be best served by having my surgery performed by a neurosurgeon, not an orthopedic specialist. My wife thinks I'm just splitting hairs and that a "surgeon is a surgeon." I disagree. What's your take?
Tendon trouble? Joint pain? Ever wake up with numb hands? Are you having difficulty opening jars, turning a key? These are common symptoms of arthritis, nerve compression and tendonitis.
The best sort of physician not only assists you in your recovery; they know what it's like to walk in your shoes. That type of empathy is both rare and wonderful - and it's also available in spades from Antelope Valley Orthopaedic & Rehabilitation Specialists (AVORS) Medical Group co-founder Thomas Nasser, DO.
Hi Doc! I'm a 26-year-old man who has been recently diagnosed with a Chiari malformation. Didn't see that coming! I have been experiencing radiating neck pain, dizziness, nausea and ear ringing. My neurologist suggests that we treat the symptoms with medications, but I'm young and don't want to take pills for the rest of my life. I'd like to consider surgery. I'm otherwise in good health. What do you think?
Over a decade ago, two prestigious doctors were being recruited by a hospital for the same slot - by two different recruiters. A comedy of errors transpired, resulting in the medical professionals finding themselves in the office suite both were promised individually.
QUESTION: "I'm very curious about artificial disc replacement. It seems like a much better option for me, considering my age and desire to maintain my active lifestyle. Can you tell me more?"
Where do you go when nagging vitality or cosmetic concerns weigh heavy on your mind?
Debilitating pain. Frustrating weakness. Tingling, numbness, headaches, vision loss, dizziness, confusion... A damaged nervous system can be a major knock to your quality of life.
Having a "bikini body" is easy. Get a bikini, put your body in it, and - ta da! - a bikini body is yours. That being said, many of us aren't too keen to two-piece it this summer without a little "help" first. That's why we talked to the best in exercise, non-invasive fat reduction and cosmetic surgery to find out how to feel fit and confident in a swimsuit this season.
May you have a healthy, happy heart! Tips and tricks inside.
Imagine being told that your child has cancer. It is the most dreaded news a parent could imagine. Thankfully for the Santa Clarita Valley, the Michael Hoefflin Foundation for Children's Cancer (MHF) provides families stricken with this news both the financial and emotional support they need at such a devastating time.
From hair styles to home accessories, everything old is new again.

Most Inside SCV staff members are somewhere in our 30s. Like most SCVians, we try to take good care of our bodies and our appearance - so you can imagine the discussions that have evolved over the years as the calendar pages fly past at top speed, our wrinkles deepen and our skin starts to lose that youthful bounce.
