Get Bunion Relief

Commonly used methods for reducing pressure and pain caused by bunions include the use of protective padding, often made from felt material, to eliminate the friction against shoes and help alleviate inflammation and skin problems; removal of corns and calluses on the foot; changing to carefully-fitted footwear designed to accommodate the bunion and not contribute toward its growth; orthotic devices - both over-the-counter and custom made - to help stabilize the joint and place the foot in the correct position for walking and standing; and splints for nighttime wear to help the toes and joint align properly. Conservative treatments may not be adequate to prevent progressive damage from bunions. In these cases, bunion surgery, known as a bunionectomy, may be advised to remove the bunion and realign the toe. The Foot Care Center of Santa Clarita; 253-3668

Take a Ride Instead of the Road
Indoor cycling gives a rider the opportunity to mimic the terrain he or she will encounter in the next big race, without having to travel far from home. Riders are able train with the power needed to climb steep hills and speed through the straights, and use bursts of speed to pass other (imaginary) riders, all while putting their bodies through the same stresses of an actual race. Indoor cycling also allows road cyclists to train when weather conditions are not conducive to being outdoors safely and comfortably. While it may be difficult for loved ones to keep up with a serious road racer, in a cycling studio everyone is able to determine the intensity of his or her ride. Can You Light the Night?
Celebrate Life and Fight for a Cure for Blood Cancers

Every year, the Santa Clarita Valley community comes together to raise funds for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society at the Light The Night Walk. It is an evening of fun and food, music and mission, camaraderie and community, with an inspirational display of hope as participants carry illuminated balloons representing survivors (white), supporters (red) and those who've lost a loved one to blood cancer (gold).

Be sure to save the date of Saturday, October 29 for this year's SCV Light The Night Walk at Bridgeport Park in Valencia. The festivities begin at 5 p.m. with live music by Blue Sky, followed by a remembrance ceremony honoring lost loved ones at 6 p.m., and the Walk beginning at twilight (approximately 7 p.m.). Wells Fargo is the presenting sponsor.

"It's a time to celebrate the lives saved like our little guy Evan, as well as the many lives lost to blood cancers," states SCV Light The Night Walk Chair Marina Contreras. "And since it's Halloween weekend, we decided to celebrate with some fun activities for the kids. There'll be a costume contest that will be judged by 9-year-old leukemia patient Tyler Cordova; trick-or-treat candy distributed by the Girlfriends Against Cancer team; and Citibank is going to host a spooky fun house at their tent," says Contreras.

Proceeds from Light The Night benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), the world's largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research and providing education and patient services. The mission of LLS is: cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.
