Effective Treatment for Chronic Headaches
Migraines and other chronic headaches like cluster headaches and recurrent tension headaches can take a significant toll on everyday life. Migraine headaches are often undiagnosed and untreated. If you regularly experience signs and symptoms of migraine attacks, keep a record of your attacks and how you treated them. Even if you have a history of headaches, see a specialist if the pattern changes or your headaches suddenly feel different.

See your doctor immediately or go to the emergency room if you have any of the following signs and symptoms, which may indicate other, more-serious medical problems:

An abrupt, severe headache like a thunderclap

Headache with fever, stiff neck, mental confusion, seizures, double vision, weakness, numbness or trouble speaking

Headache after a head injury, especially if the headache gets worse

A chronic headache that is worse after coughing, exertion, straining or a sudden movement

New headache pain if you're older than 50

At Advanced Center for Neurology & Headache, patients have access to the most advanced and effective treatments for headaches for long-term symptom relief.

What Palliative Care Really is & Why your Family Might Need It
Certified Palliative Care improves quality of life by focusing on seniors' physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs. This program goes beyond what many people think of when they hear the term palliative care, providing assistance and comfort regardless of life expectancy.

While most people use the terms "palliative care," "non-medical home care" and "hospice care" interchangeably, these are traditionally thought of as different types of care.

Palliative care and hospice care have many similarities. At their core, both seek to relieve discomfort and improve overall quality of life. However, hospice care is typically reserved for those who are nearing the end of life. Traditionally, palliative care is for anyone who needs care focused on their comfort and wellbeing, regardless of their life expectancy.

Visiting Angel's Certified Palliative Care program is rooted in this traditional model of palliative care. Their goal is to enrich quality of life for all clients through specialized, non-medical care and assistance.

Memory Care is an Option for Seniors with Dementia
If you have a loved one with Alzheimer's disease, dementia or other cognitive concern, you know that maintaining their health and safety can be exhausting and overwhelming. Finding a senior housing option with memory care support can relieve many of your worries.

Memory care is a specific type of long-term care designed to meet the needs of individuals that have Alzheimer's disease, dementia, or other types of memory problems and is provided in a secured environment by specially-trained staff in a shared or private room.

It's also common that the early stages of memory support can be provided as an additional service at assisted-living communities.

An Assisted Living Locators Care Advisor can help you determine what communities that you may want to consider depending on where on the spectrum of memory issues your senior currently is.

Nola Aronson Recognized on KHTS's "The Senior Hour" for Contribution to New SCV Senior Center
Nola Aronson, owner of Advanced Audiology, has made a generous contribution to the new SCV Senior Center - and is receiving kudos.

When the Bella Vida Senior Center opened to the public in April, Aronson was on site to experience the excitement for herself. Saying that it felt like a "home away from home," the specialist noted that it was much more than "just" a senior center.

The 30,000-square-foot facility has a banquet hall, library, lounge, fitness center, dance studio, outdoor cabana, multi-purpose rooms and much more.

It's well known that Advanced Audiology and Nola Aronson contribute generously to the SCV community - 10 percent of hearing-aid proceeds are invested back into Santa Clarita via numerous nonprofit organizations. This generous gift exceeded expectations, though, allowing for a space for activities and volunteer coordinators - ensuring that the services provided to the SCV senior community will be done efficiently.

You're Still Hot... Just in "Flashes!"
Women pass through many stages in life based on their hormone status, including prepubescence, puberty, adolescence, childbearing, perimenopause and menopause. Each of these stages has its own tasks and challenges, but perimenopause can be the most stressful because of its sometimes-drastic physical and psychological changes to a woman's wellbeing - and its possible duration of 10 years!
Some women experience no untoward symptoms of perimenopause, while others may experience any or all of the following: hot flashes, night sweats, sleep disturbances, mood swings, irregular periods, heavier bleeding, bloating, headaches, depression and decreased sex drive. (And that's not even a complete list!)

These changes can usually be attributed to a hormone imbalance resulting from a lack of consistent ovulation. This decline in ovulation leads to a decline in progesterone and estrogen dominance. The good news is progesterone, in a bioidentical formula, can often rebalance female hormones and alleviate the symptoms a woman is experiencing. When taken orally, Progesterone decreases water retention, improves sleep and mental function, increases sex drive, decreases anxiety and depression and increases the effectiveness of other hormones, including thyroid, testosterone and estrogen.
