Slow Down & Take Care of You
by Pat News
Isn't it shocking that Thanksgiving is right around the corner and that Christmas and Hanukkah will be here before we know it? Where does the time go? Are we having any fun? Or are the silly details distracting us from our priorities... and what should those priorities be, anyway?
So many of the women that I have the honor to care for as their health care provider seem to have the same complaint - not voiced as a complaint but rather as an observation of their reality. They are stressed beyond words, committed beyond their comfort zone and wishing for a calmer life. Do we realize we have the ability and luxury to make that change? We can calm our lives by just making our priorities known and acting on that knowledge. Those priorities should be our family members and loved ones.
Saying "no" to a school function may seem like the end of the world but the world will continue to spin even after you have chosen not to extend yourself. Showing your kids that you too have needs that deserve to be met will be an example to them when they are a parent. Treat yourself once a month to a house cleaner - you will feel like a princess and can then spend that time with a special person. We don't want to regret seeing a friend, sister, brother or parent because of some trivial obligation. And no one ever wrote on their tombstone, "I wish I worked more." Simplify your life in order to see what is really important - and believe me, "things" are not important. Take care of yourself so you get to live a long, happy life. Your loved ones will appreciate it - and my Christmas wish will have come true!

November is CRPS Awareness Month
Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) is a progressive disease of the Autonomic Nervous System, and more specifically, the Sympathetic Nervous System. The pain is characterized as constant, extremely intense and out of proportion to the original injury; it's typically accompanied by swelling, skin changes, extreme sensitivity and can often be debilitating.CRPS is ranked as the most painful form of chronic pain that exists today by the McGill Pain Index. Says SCV resident Lisa Burke: "Sadly, this disease has made it into my family. Mydaughter Layne is suffering from this awful disease and is in chronic pain. No one should have to live with this at any age, but at 19, it has been a huge struggle emotionally and physically. Please pray and donate for a cure!" You can learn more and donate online. rsds.org

Home Care IS Becoming More Specialized
Traditionally, many have viewed "home care" as more non-skilled, non-medical care, such as transportation, companionship or light-housekeeping services. That perception started to shift in 2018, with home care agencies touting launches of specialized-care programs for heart failure, COPD, dementia and other complex conditions. This move toward providing more intensive "non medical home health" will continue throughout the next decade.
Why? New Medicare Advantage opportunities will likely drive more specialized and clinical care. MA health plans are slowly turning to home care providers for their ability to keep older adults with multiple chronic and complex conditions out of the hospital. Providers that can point to specialized programs with demonstrated results will have an edge in securing those partnerships.
In addition, specialized-care programs, which may come with higher wages, can also help agencies attract and retain those hard-to-find caregivers. Even if they don't necessarily pay more, gaining clinical expertise in dementia, COPD or heart failure helps workers pad their resumes for future job hunts. Additionally, when agencies invest in specialized-care programs, it shows that they value their workers and the quality of care they're providing.
Home Instead Senior Care is a strong global advocate of this move toward more specialized care, especially in the areas of dementia and chronic disease self-management.

The Benefits of Invisalign
Choosing to straighten your teeth is a big decision that affects not only your appearance, but your lifestyle as well. As an adult, you may be looking to improve on your smile for business or social reasons. Or perhaps you're a teen or the parent of a teen looking for an effective yet modern-day solution. Either way, Invisalign and Invisalign Teen can provide a simple way to accomplish this without having to put your life on hold.
You may be surprised to know that the benefits of having properly-aligned teeth extend far beyond a confident smile. According to the American Dental Association, straightening your teeth can actually significantly affect your overall dental health. When teeth are properly aligned, it helps the gums fit more securely around the teeth, allowing for the strongest and healthiest defense against potential periodontal problems.
One of the biggest challenges of having braces is removing all the food that gets trapped in the brackets and wires. This can often lead to plaque buildup and eventually tooth decay. With Invisalign, the aligners are removable, so it's easy to continue brushing and flossing your teeth the way you normally do.
Invisalign effectively addresses all of these orthodontic issues, so you'll have the confidence of a great smile and increase the likelihood of improved oral health.
Dr. Gilbert H. Snow and Dr. Daniel Azani are Diamond+ Providers of Invisalign, which means that they rank in the
top 1 percent of Invisalign providers in the world.
