Henry Mayo Re-opens for Elective Surgeries
Our community has responded well to stay-at-home and social distancing recommendations. Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital staff thanks you for doing your part to "flatten the curve" and reduce the spread of COVID-19. It's because of your efforts that our local hospital has been able to reopen for elective surgeries and other procedures.
To ensure the safety of patients and staff members, Henry Mayo has implemented new screening processes, including social distancing and universal masking. That's why community members are now encouraged to contact their physicians and schedule any necessary or preventive procedures they've delayed, such as annual mammograms at The Sheila R. Veloz Breast Center and regular physical therapy clinics.
Yes, COVID-19 can be a frightening disease. It's understandable why people are avoiding areas where they fear the coronavirus could be spread. But Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital is not such a place. There are strict processes in place to isolate and treat suspected COVID-19 patients and to protect all others who visit the Emergency Department or anywhere else in the hospital. All vital services are once again open for emergency, non-emergency and preventive care.

LA Vein Center Earns Rare Accreditation from IAC
Are you one of the 50 percent of Americans age 50 and older affected by varicose veins? If so, you should know many factors contribute to accurate vein treatment and management. The training and experience of the vein specialist performing the procedure, the type of equipment used and the quality assessment metrics each facility is required to measure all contribute to a positive patient outcome.
IAC accreditation is a "seal of approval" that patients can rely on as an indicator of consistent quality care and a dedication to continuous improvement. Accreditation by the IAC indicates that LA Vein Center has undergone an intensive application and review process and is found to be in compliance with the published standards, thus demonstrating a commitment to quality patient care in vein treatment and management.

Your Quick Guide to a Brain Health Lifestyle
Brain health is just as important as physical health at Home Instead Senior Care for Santa Clarita and Antelope Valleys. That's why they recently hosted a "Brain Healthy Lifestyle" webinar for seniors featuring Dr. James Ellison from the Alzheimer's Foundation.
He discusses simple, independent lifestyle practices based on the DANCERS theory:
DISEASE MANAGEMENT encourages seniors to get help and treatment for chronic diseases including diabetes, high blood pressure and depression. If you smoke, stop. If you're eating foods that feed your condition instead of helping it, stop. And if you're not reaching out when you really need help, stop.
ACTIVITY is vital for brain health. Increased physical activity, even a little at a time, can help you feel better from the inside out.
NUTRITION is associated with a larger and healthier brain - no kidding! -
so focus on veggies and olive oil, and reduce your dependence on saturated fats.
COGNITIVE STIMULATION is a great reason to never stop challenging yourself. Learn to love your computer, Kindle or other device.
ENGAGEMENT means never stop reaching out because social isolation
is a killer! Talk with someone every day.
RELAXATION is about giving yourself time to take a breath
and think about the good times.
SLEEP is the body and brain's best healer.

Reverse the Clock with ThermiVa
Pregnancy and childbirth can take a toll on a woman's body, and aging doesn't just happen to the face - but from head to toe. With today's technology, however, women have many options to feel younger and more vibrant from the inside out. ThermiVa is a revolutionary non-surgical procedure that improves vaginal laxity using heat to tighten treated areas. Controlled radiofrequency energy is used to increase collagen and blood flow, while also tightening the surrounding skin and tissue. The procedure is performed in-office with no downtime - and improvements are noticeable immediately. Multiple treatments scheduled over three months may be required for optimal results.
