The formal living room serves as a snapshot to the rest of the house. Every space is comfortable and accessible. "There's formality to it, but it's still inviting. These homeowners enjoy using their whole home. This is where they sit and enjoy a glass of wine."
Rich woods, dramatic lighting, heavy fabrics and nods to glamorous hotels band together to create a home in Valencia that is entirely New York chic.
The kitchen island is a play on navy, highlighting the colors of the natural quartzite slab without dominating against the dark-wood floors. Stainless steel accents shine. The kitchen nook, a hidden gem, is a cozy spot to enjoy the morning's coffee while gazing into the courtyard. The spherical lighting above is a nod to the roundness of the space. Inset bead-door cabinetry highlights the high-end abilities of the craftsmen who built it; the doors don't lay over, but nestle precisely within.
Staged over eight months, the home's design was led by Stephanie Laney of Clear Images Home (818-216-5040). "This was a labor of love for everyone involved. The homeowners are pros - they know what it takes to build a home and they couldn't have been more gracious. My subcontractors took incredible pride in their work. Every person who was part of this is overjoyed with the end result," says the interior designer.
"The wine cellar by Closet Wine Cellars (297-1935) is a showpiece guests see as soon as they enter. Not only is the work gorgeous, keeping the homeowners' collection at the correct temperature and position for storage, but they were wonderful to work with, always going the extra mile with incredible attention to detail," says Laney.
Created for discerning empty-nest homeowners, the transitional formal home stands out on a street filled with Tuscans. "It's definitely different when compared to neighboring homes and is filled with so many custom details. Every space has something extra special to discover."
A "his" and "hers" pair of guest rooms offer peak luxury. Above, masculine, streamlined decor, silver-blue honed marble and a floating bench in the shower make for a contemporary look. Below, magical lighting that casts crystal rays when lit is the star, with white herringbone Calcutta marble in the adjacent bath.
A porcelain tub with chrome-finish exterior is a major focal point in the master bath, reflecting the glow of the microcrystalline glass tile. The Calcutta gold marble shower walls draw the eye back into the space. Surface-mounted hardware in polished nickel serve as a decorative, functional art piece. Custom-patterned basketweave Calcutta marble heated flooring with microcrystalline dots draws the luxurious room together.
