Sometimes a remodel can be as simple as a quick hardware swap or new faucet install. And, sometimes you need a whole lot more. No matter where your bath is on this continuum, you'll find the elements you love in these pages.
PAINT
These cool and restful colors are ideal for a relaxing spa bath environment. This color is complimented by lots of painted white semi-gloss wood trim like bead board, crown moldings, baseboards, doors and cabinets... and lots of light streaming in from windows. Allbright color can be matched to any paint local manufacturer, like Dunn Edwards and Sherwin Williams Paint. When you choose your finish, make sure the paint will hold up to moisture. Many professional painters still prefer to go with a semi-gloss finish paint in the bathroom. It can handle the steamy showers and it also cleans well, making it ideal for rooms that have more moisture. New paint technology has enabled the pros to paint with lower gloss levels, such as eggshell, velvet and even matte finish paints that will hold up extremely well. FLOORING
The pros at Brent's Carpet One discourage people from installing laminate in their bathrooms. Laminate is made from pressed fiberboard, and no matter the quality it absorbs water like a sponge, swelling and deforming. Once this happens it is impossible to repair and must be replaced with new material. Better materials for a bathroom would be tile or new glass-backed vinyl. The old felt-backed vinyl had a propensity to curl when wet (felt on the backing absorbed water, causing seams to fail over a five to 10 year period). These new vinyl products do not curl or warp when in contact with water. They will lay flat on the bottom of a pool! The printing technology is improving to the point where a nicer, cushioned vinyl is a good imitation wood or stone product - and while it is still not the real thing, for a high traffic bath you will find that you are happier when you can skip cleaning the grout! FINISH
Cabinet-finishing trends come and go, which means you can never go wrong with a timeless and traditional solid-color paint application. Your solid shade (White is a popular choice, though you'll do a lot less cleaning when you choose a deep finish.) will prove to be an ideal backdrop to any number of accessory or design element changes. Make a big design Splash on a Budget

If you are looking to update the overall look and durability of your bathroom, you can save a bundle of money and time by giving your bathroom a facelift. Your bath may be the perfect candidate for this type of upgrade if you are happy with the amount of space you have and the layout of your bathroom. This means using the existing structure and not demolishing it completely.
Many of my clients have opted to stay in the home and upgrade the bathrooms. Approaching any design project can be a daunting task and doing so on a budget takes some clever planning. That's why I advise you to select design elements that offer beauty and longevity.
A Clean Start
Replace your plain white ceramic tiles with unique glass or stone, or a mosaic mixture of the two. Remember, just as in the kitchen, porous stones, such as marble and limestone, will stain. So select countertops with a polished surface to make cleaning easy. To avoid slipping on the floor, consider materials that have a matte finish for the flooring.
Every light fixture in the bathroom should serve a purpose. At the vanity, light needs to wash over your face for proper makeup application. Wall sconces on either side of the vanity mirror, at eye level, are a perfect choice. Add shades to soften the glow of the bulbs. Over the tub, consider adding a chandelier to create a new level of lighting and give your bathtub a sense of importance.
A heavy vanity with cabinet doors to the floor visually weighs down a small bath. Replace yours with a light and airy vanity made to look like furniture. An open bottom shelf is a great spot to add a basket to hold towels and toiletries, keeping the sink area free of clutter and mess. These vanities can be store bought or custom made by a carpenter, depending on your budget.
