Right on Trend Kitchens
May, 2013 - Issue #103
It isn't always easy to keep track of what's in, what's out; what's hot and what's not. We turned to SCV's home improvement experts to find out what colors, designs, finishes and finds are gracing the "it" kitchens of Santa Clarita.

nano-technology hard-to-scratch finishes
One more reason why buying American is a good call: wood flooring finishes. In the States, top-rated nanotechnology has enabled US manufacturers to embed aluminum oxide particles into the final finish coat on domestically-produced wood floors. That extra-tough addition makes the flooring incredibly scratch resistant. These long-wearing floors are ideal for rooms with lots of foot traffic or a good deal of pulling/pushing chairs out and in. In contrast, imported flooring from Asia does not yet incorporate the same quality finishing in its production.

spa-like kitchens
Bold, bright hues have taken a backseat to more spa-like colors in the kitchens of 2013. Although emerald is the color of the year, you won't see this bold color as much in the kitchen as you would in your wardrobe. Kitchens are the hub of the home; it is where everything from family meetings, homework and, of course, cooking take place. This is why the new trend colors of flannel grey, shale, white and deep tan will help soothe and renew the family. Adding a contrast of interest is also essential in 2013.

Sessemo stone tile
We love the variety of natural stone materials because the multiple sizes, finishes, shapes and material make creating a unique, one-of-a-kind design easy. These materials can be incorporated with other natural stones or porcelains as an accent for a backsplash or shower. They also work as shown for an entire installation. The possibilities are endless. Pictured here: The herringbone pattern incorporates one of the hottest design trends, shown in Nemestrinus Brushed finish. It is complemented by the No-grout Diamond Vincenza and the 3/8 x 12 Pixie Stick Vincenza. The countertop is fabricated out of Calacatta Gold.
