What's much rarer is to discover a nationally-based organization, locally owned, that boasts a vast web of community involvement that stretches from one side of Santa Clarita to the other. "Our involvement in the success of Santa Clarita and the people who live here goes beyond writing a check," says RE/MAX of Valencia and Santa Clarita owner David Rendall. "Our Realtors serve on boards of directors large and small; they're actively engaged with building new community resources, making sure local PTAs have what they need for the children they serve - and everything in between. Donations are a big part of investing in our community, but RE/MAX doesn't stop there. It's important to us to positively engage in the care of our friends, family and neighbors. For example, in 2016, RE/MAX of Valencia and Santa Clarita directly supported a variety of events and organizations, including the Valencia Jazz & Blues Concert Series, Light Up Main Street, The Battle Buddy Foundation, The Wine Affair, Taste of the Town, Children's Hospital LA Book Drive, Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital's Home Tour, Cards for a Cause, the VIA Bash and the Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital Teddy Bear Drive.
2017 will have more of the same; the community-oriented business has already committed to supporting the SCV Annual Charity Chili Cook Off benefiting a variety of local nonprofits, the SCV Youth Project Golf Classic, SENSES on Main, Casino Night benefiting Bridge to Home and Concerts in the Park.

"A community is only as healthy and vibrant as the people who call it home," says Rendall. "That's why we work diligently to support a thriving arts and entertainment scene; women and children's organizations and more. When we give a hand up to those who may be struggling, we're not just helping that individual; everyone around them is positively affected, too. That's the kind of impact we seek to make in Santa Clarita - one that has a constructive ripple effect, doing the most good for the biggest amount of people."

When asked what he says when other business leaders reach out for advice on philanthropy, Rendall is clear: "I tell them that you have to do it for the right reasons; you have to give without expecting anything in return." He continues, "My philosophy is that investing in the community where you live and work makes sense. The return on investment is obvious; better schools, healthier kids, less crime, happier families - who doesn't want to be a part of that? The fact that improving everyone's quality of life also helps sell houses is secondary. The best kinds of business leaders, in my opinion, are the ones who recognize the right thing to do - and then do it."
