National Candy Corn Day - Celebrate this fat-free sugar kick by testing your trivia knowledge of the humble Halloween candy.
Nearly 35 million pounds of candy corn is made every year - and that equates to about 9 billion individual pieces. Candy corn has made its way into other sweet treats, including candy-corn M&Ms and Oreo cookies. Candy corn looks good for its age - the recipe is over 130 years old. It was originally crafted in the 1880s by Wunderlee Candy Company. The candy-corn color palette of yellow, white and orange was selected to reflect a real corn kernel. Candy corn isn't just for Halloween, though 75 percent of it is produced for that holiday. Valentine's Day inspired Cupid Corn (pink, red and white). Red, green and white corn that's made for Christmas is referred to as Reindeer Corn. |
National Caramel Apple Day - With trick-or-treat restrictions this year, we're costuming up for an at-home Halloween celebration - but we won't be missing out on fun! Publisher Therese Edwards has been hosting caramel-apple-making parties for her October birthday babies for years. It's always a DIY hit with kids and adults alike - thanks to a wide variety of toppings. Unexpected favorites include crushed pretzels, toffee bits, crushed graham crackers, melted white chocolate, marshmallow fluff, Nutella and shredded coconut. |
